completing a three year course at North Devon College studying art
and 3D design , I set up my workshop at my home at Brayford which
lies on the edge of the Exmoor National Park. Being surrounded by
the wild beauty of Exmoor and the rugged coastline of North Devon it
is not hard to find inspiration.
idea for my coloured work evolved observing the colours in a wave
just before it breaks on a beautiful clear blue summers day. The
dyes I use are water based which I mix to create the finished piece.
Items which I collect whilst out walking are taken back to my
workshop to study texture and form which I then incorporate into my
work, sometimes it may only be the centre shape of a flower which I
then use for the final shape of my flowers as I like to keep them as
simple and minimalist as possible.
been turning and using wood as my main choice of medium since 1998,
my aim being to keep all materials used as natural as possible. All
of my wood is sourced locally in and around Exmoor, trees which have
been blown down or felled because no longer safe. I mainly work in
Ash, Beech Sycamore and sometimes Oak as they are more readily
available within this area.
work is mainly one off individual pieces and feel the variety within
my chosen medium helps to keep a fresh and interesting approach.
